Parent and Family Involvement

Joseph A. Gascon families are involved in site-based decision making at our school site. We have several active parent committees which include School Site Council (SSC), which is composed of parents and school personnel; Compensatory Education Advisory Council (CEAC), which is also our Title I Advisory Committee, which meets to discuss our Title I program and interventions which are provided to our socio-disadvantaged students; and an English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) which meets to discuss concerns which pertain to our English Learners. There is also a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) that meets regularly to discuss the needs and welfare of our students. The School Parent Involvement Policy and School-Parent Compact will be distributed in November during Parent Conferences. Please sign and return to the teacher.

Within our school program, we feel that parent education is very important. We offer our parents various opportunities to become knowledgeable and keep abreast of changes in education. Our parents attend various workshops/trainings offered by our school, district office and outside consultants. At JGE, we have provided workshops on discipline, SBAC Testing, technology, academic strategies, nutrition, and building healthy relationships. The district has provided training in technology, parenting, state standards and leadership roles for advisory committee members.

Gascon families are well informed about the curriculum, instruction, assessments and general activities through our monthly Community Meetings, Weekly Blackboard Messages, and event flyers.

Our parents are informed daily about their child's progress via the student agenda/planner and Blackboard Service. During Teacher/Parent Conferences which are held in the Fall and Spring, progress reports are reviewed to inform each parent of their child's academic progress. During Back to School Night in September, our parents are informed about the State Standards and expectations for the school year. "A copy of the SARC (School Accountability Report Card) can be located at the school's main office, website, or Comp Ed Office Room 105. Resources and information will be distributed, regarding our Title I Program to all parents. Thank you for your support and participation.
